How to Help
Ontario Power Generation plans to build a nuclear waste dump on the shores of Lake Huron. Telling this important story to millions of people is a monumental task. We have been hard at work since 2012, researching the threat, gathering information, and organizing ourselves to meet this challenge.
We are not alone. More than 185 municipalities that line the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence basin, have passed resolutions opposing construction of OPG’s Great Lakes nuclear waste dump representing over 22,000,000 people. More than 90,000 people have also signed a petition which was sent to the Canadian Minister of the Environment and Climate Change, Catherine McKenna, asking her to say NO to the dump.
Many U.S. politicians have also entered the fight and are asking Congress and the Senate to intervene to protect American waters from this threat.
Together we are making progress but it is not enough. Minister McKenna has asked OPG to re-evaluate several key aspects of their proposal, and has asked them to look at alternative locations, but we have no guarantee that she will ultimately vote no.
With your help we will stop the dump.
